Friends and Neighbors,
I am writing this as our nation commemorates Juneteenth. Many of us learned late that even though the Emancipation Proclamation proclaimed that "all shall be free" on January 1, 1863, it wasn't until June 19, 1865 when word of that liberation reached Texas.
It gives me pause to think that some remained enslaved, some withheld the message of freedom, and that many of us didn't learn this history in school. I am also reminded that we have grace and freedom in Christ, and yet so often forget that.
Being a community that gathers to worship and serve reminds us of that grace. We also gather to know the Spirit among us and sending us out to share the word of hope and freedom in Christ. May we come to all the ways we gather as a parish with intention and expectancy to meet Christ among us.
Even in the heat of the summer we gather together. This Saturday we will have our labyrinth open from 10 am - 2 pm. We also have Evening Prayer at 5:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We also have several groups who meet during the week. This might be the time that you want to volunteer with one of our feeding ministries. All are ways that we remember and share the love of Christ.
Thanks for making this a community that reminds others of God's love for all.
Peace,
Fr. John Mark
