We continue to celebrate 100 years of ministry here at St. James. Our life together continues the practice of justice, mercy, and faithfulness that has been passed on to us. Our renovations are a way of declaring our investment in the next 100 years. Thank you for all your gifts to the capital campaign. It is now the season when we give to support our annual budget. I am writing to ask for your support in sustaining and growing the work we do in our community.
Most of you know that we feed and tend God’s sheep in many ways. Your gifts help us continue our day-to-day operations. Staff, buildings, and other resources help us support our food ministries (Helping Hands, Doorstep Ministry, and VMC). We also provide opportunities for spiritual nurture through our own programs and classes for all ages. Many community groups use our space and neighbors find a community to support them during troubled times. Your gifts help keep the lights on, support our staff, and buy the groceries for our neighbors. Of course, all of us are fed as we come together to worship. All these ministries and resources are interwoven as one supports the other. Your financial support is a part of that web.
I give because I hear the stories of folks who have found a connection with God when they thought that had been lost. I give in gratitude for a community that honestly wrestles with hard questions and generously loves our neighbors. Naming my intention to give has become a spiritual practice for me.
Prayerfully consider what your household intends to give in support of the work of St. James. Whether you wish to use our online giving tool at stjamesknox.org or choose to give with cash or checks, please complete and submit the attached pledge card. If you have used our online tool to give in the past, please consider increasing your gift this year. We will collect and bless all pledge cards during worship on October 29. Thank you for your gifts.
