Dear Friends,
We have reached another milestone in our renovation! The long-awaited chairs have arrived and been set up in the nave. Many of you know that I am grinning like a kid at Christmas. They are pretty gorgeous and will serve us well. I am excited about the flexibility this allows us in using the space for Sunday worship and beyond.
The finance committee and vestry are crafting a budget for 2024, and we need your pledge to help us plan well. You received a pledge card and letter in the mail. I am embarrassed to say that several of us looked at a draft of the card and didn't see that we did not provide space to declare what you are giving! Please write that in or print the corrected pledge card. We will collect those cards during worship on Sunday, October 29. Every gift counts.
We continue to see violence in the headlines. There has been a distracting energy around people taking sides. I pray that we will take the side of those who are suffering, of peace, and reconciliation. Christ is there with the suffering and calls us to meet him there. We follow the vision of Christ that brings healing and transformation, not the way that glories in retribution, revenge, and retaliation.
St. James continues to meet people where they are as we do ministry right here. Don't miss the ECW Rummage Sale on Saturday! I have taken a peek, and there are some great finds. Share the word with friends and neighbors. I encourage you to mark your calendars for several events coming up. See the announcements below about a special speaker next week, the annual meeting, trunk or treat, and All Saints Day. Those are just a few of the things coming up.
As always, I am grateful to share ministry with you.
Peace,
Fr. John Mark
