Alleluia. Christ is risen.
We celebrated the resurrection with so much joy this past Sunday. The Easter feast continues for 50 days. Thank you to everyone who made Holy Week and Easter Sunday so special. You helped people feel welcomed to this place where we proclaim the welcoming love of Christ in word, deed, song, Easter egg hunts, and something good to eat. We welcome others because we have known the love of Christ and want to share it.
It was sad to hear of the passing of Pope Francis. As a world leader, he spoke boldly of God's love for the marginalized in our world. Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe issued a brief statement found at this link. Our St. James Justice Ministry spoke up with our feet as early reports are that we had over 150 at the Nehemiah Action, which had a record 1557 in attendance. You made that happen by inviting folks to demonstrate people power. I would like to think that such actions for justice are in line with the spirit of Pope Francis.
As we celebrate Easter, I encourage you to look for the signs of life emerging where others have said that there was no hope. We see the Easter story told as the earth warms and new growth comes through. Resurrection is named in the 12-step groups that meet at St. James. Hope touches a life when you greet someone here at St. James or help wash the dishes at an event.
Check this email for upcoming events and come join your community in practicing resurrection.
Peace,
