Dear Friends,
Psalm 51
11 Create in me a clean heart, O God*, and renew a right spirit within me.
12 Cast me not away from your presence* and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
13 Give me the joy of your saving help again* and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit.
It is delightful to watch things bloom. I am reminded that Lent is a season of renewal. We acknowledge our sins and trust that God forgives us. Psalm 51 puts words to a prayerful way of approaching this. (These verses form the traditional prayer that the presider at the Eucharist prays when washing their hands. Have you seen me up there mumbling?) I particularly resonate with the line "Give me the joy of your saving help again." I have known that help before and trust that I can know that joy again. Even after the cold winter, the flowers bloom again.
Walking this faith journey in community helps me remember the cycle of things, and calls me to seek renewal and the sustaining spirit of God. We have many opportunities for prayer as Holy Week and Easter are near. There are also opportunities to work for justice with other congregations. I am also grateful for the many ways you care for each other. Ministry isn't always formal or organized. We also know the sustaining spirit through a kind word or helping hand.
I pray that you can know God's sustaining spirit. Check this newsletter to find ways of joining with others in being renewed, sustained, and blooming in this season.
Peace,
Fr. John Mark
