Education for Ministry (EfM) is a four-year curriculum developed by the School of Theology at Sewanee, with each year focusing on a different aspect of how we live in this diverse world through a mature and inclusive Christianity. Along the way we read large swaths of the Old Testament, all of the New Testament, a 3000-year history of Christianity (yes, 3000 years!), and theology viewed through multiple lenses. It helps the faithful - both new Christians and those with a long history of church-going - encounter the breadth and depth of the Christian tradition and bring it into conversation with their experiences of the world as they study, worship, enjoy fellowship, and engage in theological reflection together.
The EfM 2023 school year is about to begin! The program invites participants into small, mentored groups that provide the framework for understanding life and shaping actions as Christian faith is deepened. EfM seminar groups meet in local settings and online. Participants sign up for only one year at a time; some may be interested in only the Old and New Testament studies, while others may be in it for the whole four years. This year, we will return to meeting in person on Sunday, August 27, 5-7 p.m., in a small group, mentored (not taught) by Mark Abell and Patricia Hammer. The cost is $325 a year plus books, but don't let that be an obstacle. Funds are available to help. For more information, contact Mark at (214) 514-5232 or Patricia at (304) 444-6505.
