We opened our space on election day so folks could pray and be still. That evening we gathered to have chili and play games. We had many neighbors come to be with us, and I pass their gratitude on to you. I truly believe that prayer and meditation help ground and center us so that we can be more responsive rather than reactive. Breaking bread and connecting help us know God's love and share it. I was so encouraged by the response to our providing this space on a tense day.
I write this today when the results appear certain and many of us are grieving, angry, and hurting. I am going to stay there for a short while. I will pray and be a part of community. I trust that those practices can allow me to open some space in my heart to listen to those who think differently than me, and also give me the strength and courage to continue to challenge leaders of any party to do justice. I encourage you to pray, get curious, and take care of yourself. I commend to you the letter from our new presiding bishop, The Most Rt. Rev. Sean Rowe.
Remember that many of the great stories of our faith come from times of exile and occupation. This is neither of those. No matter who you voted for, I hope that we can have the grace to be curious and seek to understand each other. May we be those who seek to serve Christ in others.
