Friends and Neighbors,
October is a busy month here at St. James. The past few weeks have also been a heavy time as we see the news of hurricanes and of increasing military conflicts. The anxiety and tension around the upcoming elections here in the US are mixed with that.
I know that I have lingered to long over the images and messages delivered to all my handy devices. I have responded by adding an hourly alarm to my phone between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm. I intend to take three deep breaths and pray to know God's presence and be present to others. I don't do that to ignore hard things, I practice this to be present to how I can respond faithfully.
As we come together to pray, study, serve, and eat pancakes, the bonds are built that make us a faithful community. We have many opportunities listed in this newsletter. As you go about doing all these things, please consider what you can pledge financially for 2025. We will be collecting pledge cards during worship on October 27. Maybe you are also wondering how to officially become a member of St. James. See the announcement below about Inquirer's Classes starting soon.
Thank you for making this a community where we can celebrate in so many ways. We are also a place where we name the sorrows and hardships of the world. Our prayers make a difference, our giving makes a difference, and the work of our hands makes a difference. Your faithfulness means something as we come together to share the love of Christ.
Peace,
Fr. John Mark
