Dear Friends,
Once again, our world faces the reality of evil. I pray for those who are suffering the horrors of the attacks in Gaza and Israel. I also pray that retaliation and revenge will not win the day. Neither of those solutions will bring peace or any semblance of a resolution, but will only feed more violence. We see how easy it is for a spirit of revenge to dehumanize the other to the point that their life has little value. We pray for peace, comfort, and the courage to hope in the face of evil.
We also take action in our own community to change the injustices that dehumanize and devalue the lives of others. Despite our strong differences of opinion, we seek to respect the dignity of all human beings. We take those actions right here where we have been placed. We tend and feed God's sheep, trusting that love can transform us all.
You will soon be receiving a pledge card encouraging you to consider what you will commit to give to the ministry of St. James. Your gifts help us all share the love of Christ. I know that many of you have been touched by that love through this community. Please prayerfully consider what you can give.
Our life in the church doesn't shield us from the pain of living. We faithfully do justice and love mercy knowing full well that our God has entered into the suffering of the world. We confess that God will bring life and transformation. May our world know God's healing grace.
Peace,
Fr. John Mark
