Dear Friends,
Many of our prayers and scriptures for Lent speak of sin, repentance, and forgiveness. Most of us expect that. There are also words of comfort, protection, and affirmation of God's presence. We heard "You are my refuge and my stronghold, my God in whom I put my trust" from Psalm 91 this past Sunday. There are many things going on in our world that give us cause to seek refuge. Especially in Lent, we are reminded to turn and trust the Lord.
Turning and trusting don't mean that we run and hide from problems, sin, or hardship. It means that we live with the faith that God is with us in all of those things. We let go of believing that we can willpower through it all. I am the first to admit that I often struggle to believe that God is with me. Our community and tradition help me return to that place of trust. That is a way of sharing faith. We share some with a friend when they are lacking.
I am excited to see that more of us feel comfortable joining in worship. It is a delight to share worship together. CDC guidelines now suggest that Knox County is at a "medium" level of risk. Our Vestry is meeting on March 15 and we will consider changing our mask policy. Stay tuned and keep wearing a face covering for the time being.
Thank you also for your giving that helps support our ministry. Your generosity helps us feed our community in body and spirit. I look forward to sharing more about our Centennial Capital Campaign and the hopes we have of making space that serves the work we do of sharing God's love. We seek to be that place where God's presence can be known.
Peace,
Fr. John Mark
