Outreach

In 2000, St. James was designated a Jubilee Center in recognition of its outreach ministry.  We currently have eight active outreach programs which span all stages of life and extend well beyond our local neighborhood.

Appalachian Resource Ministries Team: an organization supporting outreach to socio-economically depressed areas of East Tennessee. With the Diocese, St. James sponsors a two week summer camp in Northern Campbell County for at-risk children from kindergarten through eighth grade. Assisting over fifty families with food, gasoline, and utility payments, this ministry also actively works with two other Jubilee Centers: the Community Parent Resource Center in White Oak and the Mountain Women’s Exchange in Jellico Tennessee.    Read more

Career Closet: provides interview clothes for job-seeking women. Housed at St. James, this ministry is run by volunteers from the Knoxville/Knox County Office on Aging’s Retired Senior Volunteer Program.    Read more

Door Step Ministry: helps individuals who come to St. James for assistance with food, utility payment, bus passes, and emergency gas cards. Office volunteers operate this program.    Read more

Habitat for Humanity: We have participated in two joint building projects with other churches and businesses since 2006.    Read more & see our "Habitat" slide show!

Helping Hands Food Pantry: provides non-perishable food bi-weekly on    Saturdays. Many of the individuals served live in nearby housing complexes. Countless people have been served in the thirty-plus year history of this program.     Read more
