Lay Eucharistic Visitors
On September 17, 1995, a small group of St. James' parishioners were installed as Lay Eucharistic Ministers, now called Eucharistic Visitors.
The mission of the Lay Eucharistic Ministry is to bring the healing presence of Christ; to share love and hope; and to enable continuing participation in the worshipping community to those who are unable to attend services.
A Eucharistic Visitor has been trained to share the pastoral and sacramental ministries of the Church by taking the sacraments to members of the congregation. They leave after the 10:30 service and occasionally after the 8:00 service and go to homes, nursing homes, or hospitals, to members who are unable, at least for a period time, to be present with us on Sundays.
The intent of the Church in developing this ministry is to let those who are unable to attend know we care about them and that they are still active and valuable members of this Body of Faithful Believers. As St. Paul said, "Nothing shall separate us from the love of Christ." We are determined not to allow illness to separate any of our members from our fellowship.
We try to see that each shut-in receives Holy Eucharist at least once a month.
