Lectors and Chalice Bearers
Lectors and Chalice Bearers read the scripture, lead prayers, and help serve Communion during services.
Chalice Bearers are trained and then licensed by the Diocese to help the clergy in the serving of the wine at Holy Eucharist. We have three stations most Sundays for the receiving of the bread and wine. This requires us to have more Chalice Bearers to assist the clergy. We currently have 23 Chalice Bearers and some awaiting training. Each Sunday one Chalice Bearer will read the Prayers. Scheduling of the Chalice Bearers is done on a rotating basis, as much as possible.
A Lector is defined as a member of a congregation who assists the priest during the Liturgy. Their role is to walk to the lectern or to the front of the Nave and give Bible readings. At St. James, we have approximately twenty-five lectors who participate on a rotating basis and assist with the worship service. Training is involved and the schedule is made bi-monthly. If you are interested in being a Lector or have any questions, please contact Laura Root. All current Lectors please be on the look-out for upcoming "brush up" training session!
