Daughters of the King (DOK)

The Mary-Martha Chapter at St. James is part of The Order of the Daughters of the King, an international lay religious order for Episcopal women and those of churches in communion with the Episcopal Church as well as the Roman Catholic Church. All women communicants of St. James are welcome.

Our purpose is to bring others into a living and loving relationship with Jesus, our Lord and Savior and to help strengthen the spiritual life of our parish.  We strive to be an extension of Christ's Kingdom by following two rules of life: Prayer and Service; each member pledges to a lifelong program of prayer, service and evangelism -- especially of women and girls.

Chapter ministries include serving families in time of grief by offering food, memorials and refreshments for the receiving of friends; maintaining the freezer food ministry for parishioners in time of sickness or other need; and providing banners for newly baptized infants and children, and host labyrinth quiet days throughout the year.

We also coordinate the parish prayer chain and prayer card requests, support our clergy by regularly lifting them in pray and being available to help Father Joe in whatever way needed. Members also serve the parish and community in the many individual ways that God calls them.

We join with Daughters around the world offering our prayer and financial support for a number of missionaries around the world.  We also aid women who are studying for service in the church through
scholarship funds financed through love offerings and gifts.

We are exploring the possibility of forming a Junior Chapter for girls age seven and older.

We welcome any women to join us for our meetings on the second Saturday of each
month at 10:00 am.
