Disciple

A program of disciplined Bible Study aimed at developing strong Christian Leaders.   It focuses on the disciple as a learner, believer, proclaimer and servant, while providing the fellowship of a small group for study, preparation, support and servanthood.

2009 Disciple Bible Study

What is it?

  • A comprehensive Bible study, beginning with Genesis and ending with Revelation.
  • An overview of the scope and sequence of the Biblical story.
  • A chance for many people to put into one connected picture the isolated Bible stories they learned as children.
  • An introduction to current scholarship as it addresses the historical and cultural contexts of the scriptures.
  • An opportunity to apply the scriptural truths to our daily life as we seek to follow Christ today.

What happens in class?

Brief video presentation by variety of Biblical scholars, or brief lecture by leader.

Followed by discussion, either in small groups or with the class as a whole. • Time for prayer and personal prayer concerns.

All classes are 2 hours in length.

What is required of participants?

  • Attendance. Consistent attendance is important for the continuity of the learning and for the development of the group. Attendance should be given priority in your personal scheduling.
  • Preparation. An average of two to four hours of weekly reading.
  • Study book. To be purchased at first meeting for $33.
  • Confidentiality. Anything of a personal nature which is shared is kept within the confines of the group.

  • “It has put the isolated stories I learned as a child into a connected picture.
  • “It has made the weekly scripture readings in worship more meaningful.”
  • “I was surprised to learn how much grace there is in the Old Testament.”
  • “Before taking Disciple, I didn’t know enough to be comfortable even asking a question in Sunday School. Now I have a basic understanding of what the Bible is all about.”
  • It has broadened my understanding of what constitutes prayer, of the importance of service, and of what it means to live as a Christian.
